the importance of keeping notes

i'm starting to realize just how important it is to keep a garden journal..

a couple of months back when i planted all of my spring blooming bulbs, i failed to document exactly which bulbs i planted in each container i used (what was i thinking!?). now that some of my bulbs are starting to poke their little heads up above the soil..i have no way of deciphering whether they are crocuses, narcissus or one of the many other varieties of bulbs i planted.

i thought this year i'd just use a composition notebook since i have one handy...but, i made the mistake of doing a quick search on etsy for garden journals (why do i torture myself so?) and came across this lovely little handmade garden journal from bijou originals. instant love. sigh. i really like that the seller makes the journals to order and offers custom fabric! i think i may just have to change my birthday-gift-to-myself idea.

what is the best birthday gift you've ever received (from yourself or someone else)?
